About the course

AFFIRM-ED is a Nordic research collaboration that has resulted in an online course on sexual and gender diversity and affirmative, inclusive practice with LGBTQI+ people.

LGBTQI+ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex people. The plus sign (+) also includes other sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions.

The course is based on research into LGBTQI+ people's living conditions, well-being and experiences of social services and healthcare. Its aim is to strengthen knowledge and support more inclusive and equitable practice in human service professions.

The course material is available in Swedish, Finnish, Norwegian and English.

It is aimed at students and professionals in fields including social work and healthcare.

Teachers in higher education can also use the material in their teaching.

The course material corresponds to two ECTS credits. ECTS stands for European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System, a European system for describing the workload of higher education studies.

A Nordic research collaboration

AFFIRM-ED stands for Affirmative education in social and healthcare for sexual and gender diversity.

The project is a collaboration between the University of Gothenburg, the University of Helsinki, Tampere University and Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet).

The project is funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers through NIKK (Nordic Information on Gender).
