The Centre on Global Migration (University of Gothenburg) and the Mason Institute for Medicine, Life Sciences and the Law (University of Edinburgh) welcome all to a public symposium presenting Josephine T. V. Greenbrook’s research and upcoming book on physicians’ lived experience of law in encounters with undocumented patients in the context of everyday medical praxis in Sweden. Situated between critical legal studies, the medical humanities, political anthropology, and healthcare science, this research illuminates how sovereign borders enter healthcare institutions, constructed by perceived ‘illegality’ at the nexus between law, medicine, and undocumented migration. The event is open to the general public, and is of specific interest to academics, practitioners, civil society, and policy makers, as well as students in medicine, the humanities, and the social sciences alike. A Q&A and interdisciplinary discussion will follow the presentation.
