21 students, 21 perspectives. From wood to metal, from sketch to object, this exhibition celebrates the many ways materials and ideas take shape.
This annual exhibition showcases the degree projects of 21 students graduating from Metal Art and Wood Oriented Furniture Design at the University of Gothenburg’s Campus Steneby.
Here, you are invited to perceive and take part of 21 angles of craft and design. Through material and conceptual investigations, the students explore human practices and behaviours using a variety of methods and techniques.
The exhibition presents a thematic diversity. At the same time, the projects also intertwine in common topics. Some engage with a democratic approach to design, where a sense of community and bringing people together become central. Others may address different aspects of resilience, as well as symbolism and tradition in a contemporary context. These tendencies can also be recognised beyond the exhibition space.
21 Degrees also marks a transition. As a graduation exhibition, it presents the work of students at a moment of completion and departure. The projects are the result of sustained engagement over time, but they also represent a first step into independent practice. What is shown here is both an outcome and a beginning.
Welcome to a perfectly fine temperature of 21 degrees.
