lambda nordica, peer-reviewed Nordic journal of LGBTQ studies, invites you to an afternoon of reflections on academic freedom and collegial solidarity in times of increasing pressure. The event focuses on the specific forms of backlash faced by minoritised academics and scholars of heteronormativity, cisnormativity and racism, how these manifest within academia, and what can be done in response.

The symposium opens with two keynote presentations:

  • From Birth Parents to Backlash: Trans pregnancy research project – Ruth Pearce, PhD in Sociology, Senior Lecturer in Community Development at the University of Glasgow
  • Queer (Self‑)Censorship and the Conditions of Academic Freedom – Elisabeth Lund Engebretsen, Professor of Gender Research, University of Stavanger

The keynotes will be followed by a panel discussion with the speakers and members of the lambda nordica editorial board.
