Marie NDiaye is among France’s most acclaimed contemporary writers.

Her work interweaves realism and imagination, while exploring themes of identity, family, society’s margins, and the darker recesses of the human psyche. She made her literary debut at the age of 17 and has since been the recipient of numerous awards for her novels, short stories, plays, and screenplays. In 2009, she was awarded the Prix Goncourt—France’s foremost literary prize—for her novel Three Strong Women. She remains the only woman writer whose work has been performed at the French national theatre Comédie-Française during her lifetime.
