About Martina Almgren
Martina Almgren has been program director for the bachelor and master composition programmes since 2917. She also teaches improvisation ensembles and courses about projects and the freelance world.
As a drummer and composer Martina Almgren entered the Swedish jazz scene in the late 90s and has through the years been involved in several international collaborations (Zoe Rahman, Laura Macdonald, Nikki Iles, Steve Hamilton to mention a few) and has been known as a colourful leader of Martina Almgren Quartet and the tentett Oh Yeah Orchestra and co leader of MOZ Trio together with the British pianist Zoe Rahman and Owe Almgren.
In the project "This Song of Mine" (CD 2018) she composes to lyrics by the Indian/Bengali poet and philosopher Rabindranath Tagore for voice, oud, accoustic bass guitar and percussion.
Her new project "Peace of Mind" (CD 2019) takes off in a collective interaction returning to her musical roots - including own compositions, but also joik and native american tunes for saxophone, electric guitar, electric bass and drums.
