About Lina Eriksson

About me:

I am a Professor of Political Science at the University of Gothenburg. I earned my PhD at the same department in 2005, after which I held a postdoctoral position at the Australian National University in Canberra. In 2010, I became a Lecturer and then Senior Lecturer in Philosophy at Flinders University in Adelaide. I returned to the Department of Political Science at the University of Gothenburg in 2017. During my years at Flinders University and the University of Gothenburg, I have held various leadership roles, including Director of Studies at both the doctoral and undergraduate levels.

Research:

My research has several different components. One area concerns positive political theory: in recent years, I have studied social norms — the “silent,” informal rules that influence nearly every aspect of our lives and are enforced by ordinary people. Before that, my research focused on rational choice theory. Another area of my research concerns normative political theory: here, I have studied justice in general, and more specifically justice in relation to climate change. I have also examined questions within epistemology.

Teaching:

I teach political theory at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. I also teach courses within the teachers education program, including a course on the history of political ideas for teachers specializing in social science.
