About Katharina Kehl

I earned my PhD in peace and development studies from the School of Global Studies at Gothenburg University in 2020. My doctoral work explored narratives about Sweden as an exceptionally LGBTQ-friendly country, and the implication they have for queer identities, particularly in relation to race. I have published on "Boundaries of Queerness" in Swedish contexts, militarised mobilisation of LGBTQ+ issues and racialised boundaries of national belonging.

Research areas

• Feminist peace/conflict studies and militarisation

• Borders and the politics of belonging

• LGBTQ and homonationalism

• Racism and racialisation

• Sexuality, identity, and subjectivity

• Queer theory and methodology

• Equality and non-normativity in healthcare

I currently work as a senior lecturer at the Department of Cultural Sciences, Gothenburg, where I teach and convene courses at bachelor’s and master’s level. I supervise thesis projects for both bachelor’s and master’s students.

Before coming to Gothenburg, I taught gender studies and critical perspectives on healthcare at Lund University, as well as global gender studies, development studies and migration studies at Gothenburg University. I have also worked as a educator for RFSL Rådgivningen Skåne, providing trainings in LGBTQ-competency to professionals in healthcare and education.
