About Jonas Wallström

Jonas Wallström is Associate Professor (Docent) of Radiology and Medical Imaging at the University of Gothenburg and Consultant Radiologist at the Department of Abdominal and Vascular Radiology, Sahlgrenska University Hospital. His clinical work and research focus on genitourinary radiology, with a particular emphasis on the early detection of prostate cancer using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

He received his PhD in 2021 with the thesis Optimized Use of MRI in a PSA-Based Prostate Cancer Screening Program. His research aims to improve the diagnosis of prostate cancer and optimize screening strategies through the use of MRI.

Current research interests include MRI-based prostate cancer screening, optimization of MRI protocols, image interpretation, artificial intelligence in imaging, and longitudinal follow-up within screening programmes. His work spans the entire pathway from imaging technology and diagnostic accuracy to the design, implementation, and evaluation of population-based screening programmes.

The overall goal of his research is to contribute to more accurate, efficient, and sustainable prostate cancer diagnostics, ultimately improving outcomes for patients while supporting the effective use of healthcare resources.
