About Felix Ekman
Currently conducting research in minimally invasive treatment of therapy-resistant epilepsy
Ongoing projects:
1. Laser Ablation for the Treatment of Hypothalamic Hamartomas: A Multicenter Cohort Study
Multicenter retrospective cohort study evaluating seizure outcomes, complication profiles, and technical parameters following MR-guided laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) for hypothalamic hamartomas.
2. Technical Considerations and Outcomes of Laser Ablation for Type IV (“Giant”) Hypothalamic Hamartomas: A Multicenter Case Series
Multicenter case series focusing on trajectory planning, laser dose parameters (power, application time, and total energy delivery), staged procedures, and perioperative risk in the treatment of Type IV (“giant”) hypothalamic hamartomas using LITT.
3. Minimally Invasive Treatment of Periventricular Nodular Heterotopias: A Multicenter Cohort Study
Multicenter retrospective cohort study assessing seizure outcomes and complications following minimally invasive ablation techniques, including LITT and radiofrequency thermal coagulation (RFTC), in patients with periventricular nodular heterotopia. The study includes comparative analyses between ablation modalities.
4. Neuromodulation in Drug-Resistant Epilepsy – Systematic Review
Systematic review analyzing clinical outcomes and stimulation targets in neuromodulation for drug-resistant epilepsy, with particular focus on thalamic targets including the anterior nucleus (ANT), centromedian nucleus (CM), and pulvinar. The review also includes vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) and responsive neurostimulation (RNS) in a comparative framework, addressing indications, patient selection, and therapeutic strategy.
