The workshop “Chemical Pollution and Biodiversity”, arranged by BECC, FRAM and GGBC, will take place at the Wallenberg Conference Centre in Gothenburg on 23–24 November 2026.
The aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers working on biodiversity, ecosystem change, chemical pollution, environmental risk, monitoring, governance and related fields. The workshop will stimulate discussion and mutual learning around chemical pollution as a driver of biodiversity change, identify possible areas of overlap across research environments and disciplines, and explore future activities that may emerge from the discussions.
Possible future directions could include informal networking, thematic seminars, a white paper or synthesis note, pilot studies, student activities, stakeholder dialogues, or joint funding applications.
The programme will combine plenary sessions with parallel thematic discussions. These themes will be developed by the planning group based on input from registered participants. Participants are therefore invited to suggest themes, issues or research questions that would be valuable to discuss at the workshop. Suggested themes should have a clear link to both chemical pollution and biodiversity.
The registration form also asks for a short bio and information about relevant expertise. This will help the organising group map possible synergies and overlaps among participants and facilitate dialogue during the workshop.
We are aiming for around 50 participants, with a mix of researchers from BECC, FRAM and GGBC, as well as relevant adjacent expertise where this adds value to the workshop discussions.
