Barbara Czarniawska receives an award for interdisciplinary research
European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM) has, since its foundation in 1971, dedicated itself to raising the profile of European Management Research with respect to other established scientific disciplines as well as the business world. In 2015 an award was launched in order to acknowledge individuals who have made exemplary contributions in interdisciplinary research. Barbara Czarniawska from Gothenburg Research Institute was the first to receive this award for her “exemplary contributions in interdisciplinary research”.
The purpose of the institute is, among others, to strengthen European management research and to encourage and facilitate the initiation and the co-ordination of joint scientific research in management led by outstanding European researchers.

that it “believes that interdisciplinarity is needed to ensure that theory-building, empirical research, education and institution-building in management integrate knowledge and progress in an era of increasing specialization. This is essential to further develop management as a field that is able to advance theoretically, to provide relevant knowledge for students and practitioners, and to ultimately help to deal with the grand and highly complex challenges of contemporary society.” The ceremony took place at an EIASM council meeting in Brussels the 3d of April. After receiving the award, a sculpture representing a flame, Barbara Czarniawska held a talk on "Perils and promises of transdisciplinary research" followed by a Question & Answer session and an evening dinner.
