This panel introduces WHO’s Implementation Guidance on Transitioning to Midwifery Models of Care (MMoC) and examines how Member States are advancing evidence based, person centred care within collaborative teams. The discussion explores how countries are adopting partnership oriented approaches grounded in different interpretations of “centredness”—whether person , woman , or family centred—and what these concepts mean in practice. In exploring these perspectives, the session illustrates how midwifery models of care promote respectful partnerships between women, families and midwives, with the trusting woman–midwife relationship at their core.

Delegates from selected Member States will share experiences from their national transition processes, outlining key system enablers, challenges and research-informed lessons learned. The session will demonstrate how WHO’s guidance supports policy dialogue, workforce planning, implementation pathways and the strengthening of person centred care. An interactive audience Q&A will follow.

Axel Wolf, Centre Director, GPCC and Frida Temple, PhD student and GPCC-researcher will participate, amongst others.
Facilitators: Malin Bogren, Associate professor in Reproductive and Perinatal Health; PhD, RM, RN and GPCC-researcher and Ewa Carlsson Lalloo, GPCC-researcher.
