Fokus för Danielas doktorandprojekt har varit att undersöka hur mikroorganismer i framförallt floder påverkas och reagerar på bekämpningsmedel, se mer nedan. Hennes huvudhandledare har varit Natàlia Corcoll och examinator är Angela Wulff, båda vid BioEnv. Daniela kommer att försvara sin avhandling den 24 oktober.

Rivers, and the freshwater microorganisms that inhabit them, are increasingly affected by human activities and pollution. This thesis investigates how these microorganisms respond and acclimate to pesticides at both cellular and community levels, and examines the presence and characteristics of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in a high-flow Scandinavian river. Combining single-organism and community approaches in laboratory and field settings, it integrates metagenomics, transcriptomics, phenotypic, and chemical profiling tools to reveal molecular mechanisms, cellular responses, community shifts, and ecologically or clinically relevant genes in freshwater microbial communities exposed to pesticides, agriculture, and urban activities.
