Collective Modes and Hydrodynamic Transport in metals Beyond Weak Interactions: Insights from Graphene

Lars Fritz (Universiteit Utrecht)

Abstract

In the conventional weakly interacting picture of metals, transport is governed by quasiparticles and scattering, while collective quantum modes are typically neglected. In very clean conductors such as graphene, however, strong electron–electron interactions bring these modes to the forefront. They carry heat, strongly affect transport, and underpin striking deviations from textbook expectations such as the violation of the Wiedemann–Franz law. In this talk I will present a hydrodynamic framework that consistently incorporates collective modes while respecting the underlying conservation laws. This approach provides a unified and tractable way to calculate transport coefficients, and reveals why interactions are not a minor correction but a central player in the physics of clean quantum materials.
