Abstract:
This presentation explores the manner in which anti-corruption institutions in Europe address the challenges posed by informal networks and opaque influence. Whilst formal frameworks are intended to ensure transparency and accountability, lobbying practices and hidden networks frequently compromise institutional effectiveness. The study focuses on institutional resilience, political incentives, and societal trust, and considers regional variation across Western, Central, and Eastern Europe. The objective of this study is to underscore the capacity of informal practices to erode even robust institutions and to deliberate the ramifications for policy with regard to the fortification of anti-corruption strategies and institutional quality in Europe.
