Kort sammanfattning
I will present some preliminary results from my now numerous trips to sLOVEenia. The country is a paradise for fisherman and people come from all over the world to fish for the legendary marble trout. However, many rivers are alpine rivers with low productivity and there might not be enough fish for everyone. The solution has been stocking, both of marble trout and the invasive rainbow trout. Me and colleagues in Slovenia have been investigating the consequences of this stocking for the remaining wild population of marble trout in terms of habitat use and feeding preference. We have mainly been working in the Idrija River that previous had a very extensive mercury mining industry. Hence, another part of the project has been to see whether mercury uptake and transformation might differ between hatchery reared and wild fish. I will show you some preliminary results and some pictures of Slovenian chalk streams.
