Torgny Segerstedt Visiting Professor at Department of Law

Professor David Schneiderman has joined the Department of Law, School of Business, Economics and Law as the Torgny Segerstedt Visiting Professor for the academic year 2019/20.

David Schneiderman is a Professor of Law and Political Science at the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto. He has a considerable track record of cutting-edge research in constitutional law, human rights and international law, with a particular focus on international investment law. His professorial position at Toronto has a multidisciplinary profile. That apart, he has proven keen to develop links between law, the social sciences and the humanities in his work. The conditions of democratic participation in international law-making is a particular focus are in his research, and his engagement with human rights has been sustained since the 1980s.

The visiting professorship

Since 2003, The Torgny Segerstedt Foundation has supported visiting professors in the Memory of Torgny Segerstedt. The holders are appointed by the University of Gothenburg for periods of one year and must represent subject fields with a connection to democracy, freedom of expression, human rights or religion. The professorship is not linked to any particular faculty.
