Short description

Critical theories [KRIT] research interests include issues related to education and social reproduction and change in formal and informal educational settings. Structural issues on gender, sexuality, LGBTQI, social class, ethnicity and disabilities in education are investigated. Theoretically KRIT’s research mainly draws from sociological educational perspectives. KRIT has recurrent meetings every third week.

News

Finnish Ph.D. student visit

Between May 5-6 doctoral student Liekki Valaskivi is visiting the research environment Critical Perspectives. Liekki is a doctoral student in gender studies at Tampere University, Finland. The aim of the study is to investigate gendered structures, and more specifically trans issues in the Finnish compulsory school. Professor Ylva Odenbring is hosting this visit.
 

NERA – Conference

From March 4 to 6 2026, several members of KRIT participated in the annual conference of NERA (Nordic Educational Research Association). This year, the conference was held in Aarhus, Denmark. Research from KRIT was presented across several different networks (see list below), illustrating the breadth of research within KRIT.
