Om Irma Brkovic

I received a degree in psychology from the University of Zagreb (Croatia). In 2006, I received a Master of Science in health psychology from Leiden University (the Netherlands). I defended my doctoral thesis titled “Development of self-regulation in early adolescence and the role of parental behaviour” at the University of Zagreb (2010). I worked as a research and teaching assistant, as a post-doctoral fellow and as an assistant professor at the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. I also taught at the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences and the Faculty of Teacher Education. From September 2016, I have been working as a senior lecturer in pedagogical work at IDPP. In my research, I focus on development and parent-child relationships during adolescence, with a special interest in the development of self-regulation and parenting behaviours, as well as the development of reading and writing during early and late schooling. I collaborate on projects investigating student teachers’ conceptions of didactics, plant-blindness, children’s early understanding of numbers, and early communication and language development.
