About Silke Kern

Dr. Silke Kern is an Associate Professor, Senior Lecturer and Senior Consultant Neurologist and Psychiatrist at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, Centre for Ageing and Health, Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. She is leading all clinical research conducted at the Memory Clinic, Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Research areas

Dr. Kern's main research focus is fluid biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease in clinical settings as well as in epidemiological research. Dr Kern is leading all clinical research at the Memory Clinic, Sahlgrenska University Hospital and is Principal Investigator for the European Prevention of Alzheimer's disease Trial Delivery Center at the Memory Clinic at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Dr. Silke Kerns research aim is to increase knowledge about dementia and cognitive disorders from early diagnosis to treatment.

Main research areas are:

  • Biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease in cerebrospinal fluid
  • MRI brain imaging as biomarker for different neurodegenerative diseases
  • Riskfactors for development of different neurodegenerative diseases
  • Incidence and time-changes of dementia over the last decades
