About Markus Saarijärvi

Research presentation

Markus Saarijärvi has a PhD in healthcare sciences and biomedical sciences. Markus holds a position as an assistant researcher and his research concerns the development, evaluation and implementation of complex interventions in health.

Research

At the institute, Markus' research focuses on transitions in care for adolescents with chronic conditions. His current research project Stepstones-Implement investigates implementation and evaluation of a person-centered transition program for adolescents with congenital heart disease in the university hospitals of Sweden.

Markus Saarijärvi's PhD thesis was within the STEPSTONES project (Swedish Transition Effects Project Supporting Teenagers with chrONic mEdical conditionS) focusing on process evaluation and health economic analysis of a person-centered transition program for adolescents with chronic conditions. His PhD was a double degree between University of Gothenburg and KU Leuven in Belgium.

Markus is also part of the editorial board of the European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing and appointed as Section Editor for Knowledge translation in cardiovascular care.

Clinical experience

His clinical experience as a clinical nurse specialist covers intensive care, organ transplantation, cardiac care and refugee medicine.
