Jag är professor emerita i pedagogik och mina huvudsakliga forskningsintressen ligger inom ramen för utbildningsrelaterad etnografi med fokus på strukturella faktorer som klass, kön och etnicitet. Min forskning ägnas åt frågor om makt och inflytande, bland annat frågor som rör skolans styrning och marknadsorientering. Frågor av speciellt intresse är aspekter på inflytande och demokrati i relation till hur frågor om ansvar, flexibilitet och valfrihet kan beskrivas och förstås. Teoretiskt hör jag hemma i en kritisk tradition, metodologiskt med tonvikt i kritisk etnografi. För närvarande ingår jag i det pågående forskningsprojektet: Rasism och antirasism i mellanstadiet - En studie om hur vardagsrasism framträder och utmanas i olika skolkontexter (ROAR-projektet). Projektet pågår mellan åren 2025-2028 och finansieras av Vetenskapsrådet. De medverkande forskarna kommer samtliga från Göteborgs universitet och är förutom undertecknad: Emma Arneback (projektledare), Mattias Nylund och Ylva Odenbring. Jag ingår i forskningsmiljön KRIT (Kritiska teorier) vid Institutionen för pedagogik och specialpedagogik vid Göteborgs Universitet.
