Karolina Larsson’s doctoral thesis focuses on metronomic chemotherapy and on the decision‑making processes involved when choosing between treatment options in later lines of therapy for metastatic breast cancer—an area where clear guidelines and strong evidence are often lacking. Her research demonstrates that metronomic chemotherapy is an effective treatment option for selected patients with metastatic breast cancer. The findings also highlight that patient autonomy is strengthened when oncologists make their own values and considerations explicit in the treatment recommendations they provide.

Karolina works as a Clinical Oncologist with breast cancer at Sahlgrenska University Hospital and continues to conduct research in the field of breast cancer.

Ongoing Research Projects

Time to Meet: Communication in Cancer Care

This qualitative research project investigates how patients and healthcare professionals communicate about incurable cancer. Both healthcare staff and patients are interviewed as part of the study.
