Meet our alumni

Our alumni have marine careers in fields ranging from marine technology development and numerical modelling to environmental monitoring and mussel farming. Here you can meet some of our alumni who have completed one - or more ! - of our marine programmes at the Department of Marine Sciences.

Sophia and Rikard are marine environment experts

Sophia Hallberg and Rikard Karlsson are marine environmental specialists working with offshore renewable energy. They have both studied the Bachelor's programme in Marine Science.

Svenja works as an aquaculture expert

An oyster-focused master’s thesis within the Master’s Programme in Sea and Society led to a position as an aquaculture expert at IVL. At her workplace at the Kristineberg Marine Research Station.

Simon works as oceanographer at SMHI

Simon Pliscovaz first studied the Bachelor's programme in Marine Science with a specialisation in oceanography and then the Master's programme in Physical Oceanography. In his work at SMHI, he works with everything from weather warnings to modelling.

Christian is a doctoral student

Christian Nilsson studied both the Bachelor’s programme and the Master’s programme in Marine Sciences. As a student he discovered a previously unknown deep-sea worm, and now he's conducting research into deep-sea worm forests as a doctoral student at the University of Bergen.

Mekhala surveys the seafloor ecosystems

Marine scientist Mekhala Gangabadage from Sri Lanka realised that she needed a more interdisciplinary education. So she studied the Master's programme in Sea and Society. She now works as a remote survey operator at Ocean Infinity.
