About Rolf A Heckemann

Rolf A. Heckemann is Professor of Medical Image Processing and Image Analysis at the University of Gothenburg. His research centres on quantitative radiological phenotyping—the computational extraction of biologically and clinically meaningful information from medical images—with a particular focus on structural brain MRI and automated anatomical segmentation. He developed MAPER (multi-atlas propagation with enhanced registration), an open-source multi-atlas method for reliable measurement of regional brain structure, and has applied it across a range of clinical and research settings. Bridging methodological development and clinical research, his work addresses brain changes in ageing and in neurological and systemic disease, with an emphasis on longitudinal studies and close collaboration with neuroscientists and clinicians.
