The Institute of medicine has nearly 300 PhD students engaged in research across a wide range of research fields. Here you can find out how to apply for a doctoral studentship and get vital information for current PhD students.

We offer world-class research environments, supervisors in a great number of subjects, modern equipment and laboratories. A doctoral education gives you in-depth subject knowledge, skills in research methodology, research experience, and usually concludes with a doctoral degree (240 higher education credits) or a licentiate degree (120 credits). Our research

Two paths to our doctoral education

There are two paths to doctoral education at Sahlgrenska Academy. One is to apply, competing with other applicants, for an advertised doctoral studentship. In this case, the University of Gothenburg is the employer. Alternatively, you can be admitted to study for a PhD while holding another position, with an employer other than the University.

Study support for students with disabilities

Doctoral students with documented permanent disabilities are eligible for different forms of study support. Examples of this are note-taking support, adapted course literature, adjusted assessments and software that can make reading and writing easier.
