Our research

The Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology provides a unique research environment in Sweden covering a wide spectrum of topics in chemical sciences and molecular life sciences.

About 45 research groups, many of which have internationally leading profiles, form the core of the Department’s research activities in analytical chemistry, atmospheric science, biochemistry, inorganic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, cell biology, genetics, genomics, microbiology, molecular biology and structural biology.

Research at the Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology addresses many of the major challenges that our world is facing today. With research topics ranging from diabetes, cancer and antibiotic resistance to climate change and the creation of new materials with highly specialized functions, our researchers endeavour to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals in human health, clean energy, sustainable cities and climate action.

By offering outstanding facilities and supporting interdisciplinary collaborations with national and international partners in academia, industry and government, the Department aims to create an excellent environment for innovative research.

Looking for a host institution in Sweden?

We invite outstanding early-career researchers in chemistry and molecular life sciences to submit an expression of interest for research funding with our department as host.
