About Svetlana Sabelfeld

Svetlana's research interests revolve around topics of accounting, communication, sustainability and regulation. In her PhD project "Investor Relations on the Web", she studied communication between listed companies and institutional investors, geographically and culturally distanced from each other. Today, her research focuses on how accounting for sustainability gets locally adopted and adapted in different cultural and institutional contexts (for example, in Sweden and Japan). Also, she studies the impact of digitalization on accounting practice.

Svetlana's current project “Levels, voices and powers of accounting regulation” (funded by Jan Wallander och Tom Hidelius Stiftelse, shared with Marita Blomkvist and John Dumay) investigates transnational regulation of sustainability reporting. A particular focus of the project is how the EU Directive 2014/95 on non-financial and diversity disclosures impacts national regulation and accounting practice in EU countries. Svetlana´s research has earlier received Oscar Sillén prize for the best PhD thesis (2014) and Emerald Literati Award for highly commended paper (2019).

Earlier research projects:
2018-2019 "Implementation of EU-directive on sustainability reporting and its impacts: Establishing a new strategic research network" funded by Foundation for Economic Research in West Sweden. Project leaders Marita Blomkvist & Svetlana Sabelfeld.
2015-2018 ”Accounting for sustainability - communication through integrated reporting” (with Gunnar Rimmel, Kristina Jonäll & Peter Beusch), funded by Jan Wallander och Tom Hedelius Stiftelse.
