About us

The Institute of Biomedicine is one of six institutions at the Sahlgrenska Academy, the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Gothenburg.

We provide education at the undergraduate and advanced level, offer commissioned education and postgraduate education and conduct broad research. Teachers, researchers and administrative staff work with us. At present, the department has around 360 employees and a turnover of around SEK 440 million.

The Institute of Biomedicine has four departments with different subject specializations: infectious diseases, laboratory medicine, medical chemistry and cell biology and microbiology and immunology. Previously, there were departments for pathology, medical genetics and clinical chemistry and transfusion medicine at the department, but these are now merged into the department for laboratory medicine. There is also an administrative unit that supports staff and students.

The department has premises on Medicinaregatan, Guldhedsgatan and Sahlgrenska University Hospital, both at Sahlgrenska University Hospital / Sahlgrenska and Sahlgrenska University Hospital / Östra.
