The aim of my dissertation is to enhance the understanding of how alcohol problems can be prevented within the workplace, from a psychological perspective. My research investigates how employees react to alcohol problems at work and what hinders them from acting on concerns. Additionally, I explore alcohol prevention initiatives, alcohol policies, and the workplace culture surrounding alcohol, in relation to how employees perceive their responsibilities regarding alcohol. I also examine whether the workplace environment influences employees' drinking habits and attitudes toward alcohol, and if it can serve as a contributing factor to alcohol-related problems. To achieve these objectives, I have initiated three research studies:
- Study 1: Interviews with managers and HR personnel who received training in alcohol prevention strategies.
- Study 2: A survey to employees, including managers, about their responsibilities and attitudes regarding alcohol and alcohol problems.
- Study 3: Interviews with employees with alcohol use disorder who received help via their employer.
Through these studies, I intend to shed light on the perspectives of managers, employees as well as individuals who experienced alcohol problems themselves. The aim is to contribute with knowledge that will help refine future methods for workplace alcohol prevention.
