Summary

You will receive a theoretical introduction to morphology and deepen your study of Somali morphology, focusing on terminology, analyses, and variation.

About

The course provides you with a general theoretical introduction to morphology and morphological typology. With this background, you will then deepen your study of important parts of Somali morphology by building on the basic knowledge you acquired in SOL103. You are also expected to acquire a solid terminology in the field of morphology, both in Somali and Swedish/English.

During the course, you will compare different descriptions of Somali morphology. Differences in analyses and conceptual frameworks are highlighted and discussed. You will also discuss and analyze cases of morphological variation in actual usage. A descriptive approach and the use of corpora are the focus throughout the course.
