Contrastive Introduction to Oromo for Somali Speakers

If Somali is your mother tongue and you are interested in languages, then this is a course for you. It is also well suited for teachers of Somali as a mother tongue.
The course takes a contrastive approach, using your knowledge of Somali to explore Oromo language structures. You develop basic reading skills in Oromo through comprehension and translation exercises, while learning to use lexical resources to understand unfamiliar texts.

The course adopts a clear contrastive perspective in which your knowledge of Somali and its structure serves as the point of departure. It covers Oromo orthography, pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary in comparison with Somali. At the same time, you develop a practical ability to read simpler texts in Oromo through exercises in reading comprehension and translation from Oromo into Somali. The use of lexical resources is practised in order to enhance your ability to understand unfamiliar texts in Oromo.
The course has scheduled online classes.

Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 165 credits.
