You can collect your key(s) on or after the first day of your contract. The key(s) must be collected in person, presenting a valid ID or passport. Please check here which type of identification is required, depending on your country of citizenship.

You can find opening hours on the Servicecenter Haga website (link above). If you are unable to come during the opening hours on a given day, you will need to return on another day when the office is open. If the Service Center is closed when you arrive, we recommend staying at a hostel for the first night.

Invoice via your tenant account – Hogia DinHyresvärd

Your first invoice will be sent by email together with your login details for DinHyresvärd (https://hem.dinhyresvard.se/login). On your first invoice, you will find a personal code that you need to create your account at Din Hyresvärd’s tenant portal. The document linked below shows where to find the code on your first invoice:

Payments

Can I pay several months in advance?
Yes, you can pay for a maximum of two months in advance. If you pay more than the stated amount on your monthly invoice, the surplus will stay in your account and be used for future rent payments.

Will I receive a refund if there is money left on my account when I leave?
No. We do not make refunds of extra accommodation fee paid in advance. Before you pay your last invoice, makes sure that there will be no money left on your account after the payment. 
If there are money left on your account when you final invoice is issued, the final invoice will be adjusted to match your remaining balance.

Where can I check my balance?
You can check your account balance on your tenant portal "My Home" at Din Hyresvärd’s website.
 

As an exchange student, you apply for housing as part of your application for exchange studies at the University of Gothenburg.
(Please note: you must be nominated by your home university before applying.)

In your application, you indicate if you wish to apply for student housing. We will then contact you with the outcome.

If you have submitted a housing application in Mobility Online, Academic Housing at the University of Gothenburg will email you the result together with instructions on how to proceed.

The housing application deadlines are 15 May (autumn semester) and 15 November (spring semester). Results are sent approximately two to three weeks after the deadline.

If you are offered student accommodation, you will receive detailed instructions on how to complete your registration.

At the end of May, once you have paid the tuition fee, we will contact you with information about housing and how to apply.

As there is a shortage of housing, we also recommend that you register with SGS Studentbostäder to start collecting queue days. You can submit the required documents later.

Contract dates

Fixed contract start dates: 15 August and 1 September (check your agreement).

Fixed contract start dates incoming spring students: 7 January, 15 January and 1 February.

Contract extension

If your agreement ends on 14 January, you may request an extension until 31 January. The rent for January will be charged in full or at half rate, depending on whether you stay until 31 or 14 January.

Deadline for extension requests: 1 November. If you wish to extend your stay until 31 January, notify us after moving in.

If your study period is extended by one semester and you need to stay until 14 June 2026, ask your international coordinator at the host faculty to confirm this by emailing studenthousing@gu.se.

If you need to terminate your contract early, the notice period is one month before the contract start date, and three months during the tenancy.

All student rooms and apartments are furnished, but there are also a few things you will need to bring yourself.

• You need to bring your own bedding (pillow and duvet), sheets and towels.
• For internet access, you need to bring an Ethernet cable and a router for WiFi.
• Kitchenware is not included, but items may have been left by previous tenants.
• Occasionally, other items such as pillows, duvets, or Ethernet cables may also have been left behind. This is not guaranteed, and it is up to each tenant to decide whether to use or dispose of such items.

There are many second-hand shops in Gothenburg, if you need to pick something up that is missing. At some student housing areas, there are “reuse rooms” or free shops where you can pick up items left by previous tenants.

• Insurance 

Please note that it is very difficult to find student housing suitable for families. We recommend the following:

• Start looking for housing as soon as you have been admitted.
• Consider travelling to Gothenburg alone at first. It is easier to find a single room, and once you are here, you can search for accommodation more suitable for families.

Location
The area covers several locations around central Gothenburg, including Helmutsro, Olofshöjd, and Tillgången. These areas offer a strategic location close to the city’s main university campuses, including those at Vasaparken, Chalmers University of Technology and Medicinareberget.

Commerce
Daily conveniences such as grocery stores, cafés, and restaurants are easily accessible, especially around Johanneberg and Avenyn. From Olofshöjd, you can quickly reach Korsvägen and the city center by tram or bus.

Nature and Culture
Surrounded by green spaces, Centrum residents have easy access to Mossens sports fields and Änggårdsbergen, connecting to the Gothenburg Botanical Garden, and Slottskogen park. Cultural venues like the Gothenburg Museum of Art and the City Theatre are only a few stops away by tram.

Location
The area is in the heart of the lively Majorna district, between the charming neighborhoods of Sandarna and Kungsladugård. Here, a relaxed and vibrant atmosphere meets everyday convenience, with Mariaplan’s restaurants, shops, and cafés just around the corner. The city center of Gothenburg and university campuses are easily reached by tram.

Commerce
The surroundings offers a rich selection of dining options, from cozy cafés to Indian, Swedish, and international restaurants. At Mariaplan, you’ll find everything you need for daily life, alongside a vibrant social scene of bars and small boutiques.

Nature and Culture
Nature and culture are always close by, with the beautiful Slottskogen park offering open green spaces, a zoo, and botanical gardens. For art lovers, Röda Sten Konsthall by the water provides inspiring exhibitions in a unique industrial setting.
