Konstnärliga: A complex building, specially adapted for the Artistic Faculty

Published

The construction of the Artistic Faculty’s new building, Konstnärliga, is underway. Occupancy is planned for 2025 in the remodeled parts, and 2027 in the newly built parts.
"It will be a house full of special rooms and specially built learning environments for all our art forms," says Sebastian Jannesson, the university's coordinator for the building project.

A big difference between Konstnärliga and the faculty's old premises is that the new building will be specifically designed and built for the Artistic Faculty.
"They are built for absolute excellence within our fields," says Sebastian Jannesson.

Sebastian Jannesson also says that something that makes Konstnärliga a unique building is that all floors will look completely different. This is a very unusual way of building a house, but it was a necessity to enable all the special rooms that the faculty needs.
“It will be a complex building where no floor is the same.”

Konstnärliga will include concert halls, theaters, galleries, metal, wood, sculpture, electronics, ceramics, textile and jewelry workshops, professional sound and film recording studios, acoustically specially adapted music rooms, dance halls and studio spaces for the students' own work .

With the location at Götaplatsen, Konstnärliga also takes its place in Gothenburg's historic cultural center.
“Thus, the new building takes on a completely different public dimension.”
