About Hanna Leonardsson

Since 2012 I am a PhD candidate in Peace and Development Studies at the School of Global Studies at University of Gothenburg. My research is focused on what role local authorities in Lebanon play for building peace, locally and nationally. My previous education consists of a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in Global Studies from the University of Gothenburg. I have also worked as a research assistant on projects related to decentralization, security governance, and rape as a weapon of war.

Areas of interestMy research interests include topics such as state and nation building, peacebuilding and democratization, with a particular focus on local processes and local authorities, coexistence and reconciliation. Geographically, I focus primarily on Lebanon but I also have an interest in comparative studies.

Current research

  • Local Governments and Sustainable Peace: The Case of Lebanon (Thesis project)
  • Taking it to the Ground - Peacebuilding through a Local Government ApproachTogether with Joakim Öjendal and Isabell Schierenbeck; financed by Sida; the project will be initiated during 2014.
