Short description

Translational cancer research focused on melanoma and breast cancer, spanning clinical trials, regional cancer therapies, immunology, biomarker development, and precision medicine.

Research summary

Our research group conducts translational cancer research with the aim of rapidly bringing scientific discoveries into clinical practice. The primary focus is melanoma and breast cancer, with research spanning the full translational spectrum from laboratory-based studies to international clinical trials.

A major area of expertise is regional cancer therapy, including isolated limb perfusion (ILP), isolated hepatic perfusion (IHP), and percutaneous hepatic perfusion (PHP). The group has played a leading role in developing and evaluating these treatments through national and international clinical trials, including the SCANDIUM programme and NivoILP study.

Our research integrates surgical oncology, immunology, extracellular vesicles, circulating biomarkers, clinical registry studies, and precision medicine approaches. We investigate mechanisms of treatment response and resistance, develop novel biomarkers, and evaluate new therapeutic strategies for patients with advanced melanoma, uveal melanoma, and breast cancer.

The group maintains extensive national and international collaborations and combines patient-centred clinical research with advanced translational methodologies, including biobanking, molecular characterisation, immunological profiling, and patient-derived tumour models. Through this approach, we aim to improve diagnostics, treatment selection, quality of life, and survival outcomes for patients with cancer.
