The accelerating biodiversity crisis demands not only excellent science, but also stronger connections between research, policy and societal decision-making. Yet translating scientific knowledge into action remains challenging. What enables biodiversity research to influence conservation policy and environmental governance? How can funding organisations, scientific institutions and researchers work together to generate knowledge that is both scientifically rigorous and societally relevant? What lessons can be drawn from Brazil, Europe and global biodiversity initiatives?

Bringing together Hugo Aguilaniu, Executive Director of Instituto Serrapilheira and co-founder of Instituto Relva, and Alexandre Antonelli, internationally recognised biodiversity scientist and Director of Science at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and professor at the University of Gothenburg, this seminar will explore how biodiversity science can better support evidence-based decision-making while maintaining the creativity and independence that drive scientific discovery.
