Introduction to Natural Sciences
Naturvetenskapligt basår
About the Syllabus
The following institutions participate in the program and are responsible for one course each, comprising 15 pre-education credits:
- Department of Mathematical Sciences
- Department of Physics
- Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology
- Department of Biology and Environmental Science
Purpose
The science foundation program aims to provide knowledge in the subject areas of mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology equivalent to the knowledge required for continued studies in the science subject area at the University of Gothenburg.
Entry requirements
Degree and main field of study
The science foundation program is a preliminary education and the courses included cannot be included in a degree at university level.
A successful foundation program provides qualifications equivalent to upper secondary Mathematics continuation level 2, Physics level 2, Chemistry level 2 and Biology level 2 (GY25) or Mathematics 4, Physics 2, Chemistry 2 and Biology 2 (GY11).
Content
The Science Foundation Program consists of the following four courses:
- Science Foundation Program, Mathematics (15 credits)
- Science Foundation Program, Physics (15 credits)
- Science Foundation Program, Chemistry (15 credits)
- Science Foundation Program, Biology (15 credits)
Mathematics and physics are studied in parallel at half-speed during the fall semester. Chemistry is studied in the first quartile of the spring semester and biology is studied in the second quartile of the spring semester, both at full-time.
Objectives
See the learning outcomes for the courses included in the program.
