Apply for BA Opera

This information concerns applications to the Bachelor's Programme in opera.

For the entrance exams, you must prepare a repertoire list consisting of 6 rehearsed arias from different eras and 1 art song / lied. Use the template "Repertoire List 2024 BA Opera (PDF)" which can be downloaded from this page. Bring your filled in repertoire list to your first admission test on the 20 February. One of the arias must be performed dramatically. All arias must be memorized and performed by heart.

Admissions Tests

The following applies for applicants entering the programme in autumn 2024. 


Test 1 (Tuesday 20 February)


In the first test, you will sing an aria of your own choice from your repertoire list. The jury may also choose an additional aria from the list.

International applicants can do test 1 digitally if they wish, contact the Student Affairs Office for more information: utbildningsexpedition@hsm.gu.se

Successful candidates for test 2 will be announced in the evening.

Test 2 (Wednesday 21 February)

Only for those applicants selected to advance to Test 2

Test 2 begins with a movement test conducted in a group. The test cannot be prepared. Wear clothing suitable for movement. There are changing rooms available. You will then perform the aria from your list that you have prepared dramatically. You can get help with simple props or counterparts for your dramatic aria if you wish.

Those who have progressed to test 3 will be announced during the evening.


Test 3 (Thursday 22 February)

Only for those applicants selected to advance to Test 3.

The Test 3 day begins with dramatic improvisation in group format. This part cannot be prepared. Please wear clothing appropriate for movement. Changing rooms will be available. As a final step, you will be asked to sing two arias from the repertoire list chosen by the jury, which arias will be announced the day before at the same time as the information on who has been selected to advance to test 3.
