Vulnerable conditions within the LGBTI community
In 2026, we will launch an initiative focusing on vulnerable living conditions among the LGBTI community in the Nordic region. The initiative builds on previous initiatives within the Focus area “An equal Nordic region”.
Among LGBTI people in the Nordic region, there are several groups that are particularly vulnerable. These include groups that belong to multiple minorities and are exposed to various forms of discrimination and marginalisation based on, for example, racism, homophobia and ableism. Studies show that LGBTI people with non-normative functionality or a foreign background report exposure to bullying, violence, threats and hate crimes to a greater extent than other LGBTI people. Transgender people are also a particularly vulnerable group who face various obstacles in life, not least in working life, where conditions for transgender people as a group are worse than for the majority population. The main focus of the project will be to highlight these themes at some of the events held in the region during the year.
Purpose
- To highlight the vulnerability and oppression that comes with belonging to a minority within the LGBTI community and how this contributes to limiting equal rights and opportunities for all residents of the Nordic region.
- By disseminating the results of our previous publications, contribute to knowledge exchange and increased understanding of vulnerability among key actors and other Nordic and national stakeholders and actors in the Nordic region.
- Meet and give actors working with the target group the opportunity to develop and acquire knowledge, working methods and models, by meeting at our events
- Supplementing our publications on transgender people's working conditions by writing a scientific article with the aim of making them more accessible and searchable
Examples of events where we will participate
- IDAHOT+ Forum in Copenhagen (18-19 May)
- Nuuk Pride (mid-June)
- LGBT+ Political Summit 2026 in Copenhagen (October)
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have an event where our project would be a good fit.
