Research questions and methods
The project has identified four key research questions.
- What is the extent of exposure to unwanted sexual attention among the doctoral student population?
- What types of behavior are doctoral students exposed to?
- Does exposure to unwanted sexual attention correlate with exposure to other types of harassment, and if so, how?
- In relation to all the above questions:
- are there differences within the doctoral student group based on various categories (such as gender, discipline, background, age), and if so, in what ways?
To answer research questions 1–4, quantitative data from the national prevalence study will be analysed using feminist intersectional theory.
In line with the project’s aim, the results from these research questions will guide the work towards more in-depth studies. To further explore doctoral students’ vulnerable conditions in academia, additional empirical data is required, which will be collected through qualitative methods, such as focus groups, observations and interview studies.
