Thomas Andersson receives medal from the School of Business, Economics and Law

Thomas Andersson, Vice President Volvo Car Group and Head of Business Development and Community Engagement in the Gothenburg region, is awarded the medal Pro Studio et Scientia - for commitment and science. With this award, the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg wants to recognise and honor people who have made extensive and long-term efforts to support and promote the School' activities.

“Thomas has contributed in an outstanding way in developing a broad collaboration between academia, business and the city. His efforts have been of great importance to the School's development and it is with pleasure that we award him this well-deserved sign of our appreciation,” says Per Cramér, Dean of the School.

For many years, Thomas Andersson was chairman of GU Executive Education, where he pushed for the development of the School's commissioned education programmes for lifelong learning. With his extensive experience in collaboration between different sectors and actors, he contributes in a decisive way to the School's collaborative work. Today, Thomas is also chairman of the board of GU Ventures, the university-controlled holding company that enables the commercialisation of knowledge developed at the University of Gothenburg.

Thomas Andersson receives the award Pro Studio et Scientia 2022 with the following justification:

For his long time contribution - with great personal commitment, wealth of ideas, clear ideals and a deep understanding of the importance of lifelong learning - to the School of Business, Economics and Law's development as an increasingly strong academy in close cooperation with the surrounding society.

“I am incredibly happy about this fine award. As an alumnus of the School of Business, Economics and Law, I am proud to contribute, and I am passionate about creating collaborative opportunities between business, academia and the city,” says Thomas Andersson.

Thomas Andersson has a long career within Volvo Cars, including as CEO of Volvo Personbilar Sverige AB, Vice President International and Vice President Global Marketing. He is chairman of the board of GU Ventures AB and SAFER Vehicle Traffic and Safety Center at Chalmers, board member of the West Sweden Chamber of Commerce and since January 2023 chairman of the Trade & Industry Group Göteborg & Co. Thomas Andersson is an alumnus of the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg.

The medal with accompanying diploma was awarded in connection with University of Gothenburg's doctoral conferment ceremony on 24 March.
