Research interests

Parisa has always been interested in the field of neuroinflammation, and her scientific work during her residency focused on autoimmune encephalitis in children treated at Queen Silvia's Children's Hospital. During her residency, she also began research at the Gillberg Neuropsychiatry Centre and became part of the team studying the conditions PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections) and PANS (Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome). Her doctoral work now has the title “Diagnosis and treatment of PANS”. This work includes describing demographic factors and the onset of illness in the patient group, as well as searching for biomarkers, signs of neuroinflammation in MRI scans of the brain, and studying whether intravenous immunoglobulin can be an effective treatment.
