Grammaticographic Intersections in Armenian, Georgian, and Church Slavonic: The Case of the “Narrative” Case

This lecture traces the grammatical term “narrative” across the Armenian, Church Slavonic, and Georgian traditions, showing that the same label was applied to distinct case functions. Although these categories differ in structure and grammatical behavior, their terminological convergence reveals a shared background shaped by Latin grammatical models, missionary scholarship, Jesuit-influenced education, and Armenian-Georgian cultural exchange. By briefly comparing the formation, use, and reinterpretation of these categories in different linguistic contexts, the lecture shows that grammatical terminology develops not in isolation but through sustained cultural contact, scholarly mediation, and cross-linguistic adaptation.
