Public Economics
Public economics studies the role of the public sector, including taxation, public expenditure and the provision of public services.
At the Department of Economics, research in this area focuses to a large extent on taxation, often with links to behavioural economics, and on social security and health care. The researchers do theoretical, as well as empirical work. Current research includes optimal taxation with social preferences and tax evasion, including the role of social norms.
This research area is one of several partly overlapping areas of expertise at the Department of Economics. Many researchers are active in more than one area.
