About Hugo Ekström
Hugo Ekström is a PhD student at JMG since 2023. He received his master’s degree in Digital Media and Society from Uppsala University where he has also been a research assistant at the Department of Informatics and Media.
Hugo Ekström's research examines how far-right and adjacent discourses are constructed, mobilised, and circulated on mainstream social media platforms in Sweden. Situated within the broader field of mainstreaming studies, his work focuses particularly on how the construction and circulation of such discourses may enable them to move beyond explicitly far-right milieus, reach broader publics, and contribute to processes of normalisation.
