Financial Economics
Financial economics studies financial markets, the pricing of financial assets, and the financing decisions of firms.
At the Department of Economics, research in this area covers asset pricing and return predictability, analysts’ forecasts and expectations, mutual funds and fund-manager incentives, the use of AI in finance, climate finance, and credit risk modelling. Empirically focused research uses methods from time-series and cross-sectional econometrics, as well as recent machine-learning methods. Theoretical work connects with microeconomic theory, and in particular contract theory.
This research area is one of several partly overlapping areas of expertise at the Department of Economics. Many researchers are active in more than one area.
