About Jimmy Sand
I am an analyst with extensive experience of translating gender research and complex bodies of knowledge into analyses, reports and recommendations for policymakers, public administration, and the research and innovation system.
At the Swedish Secretariat for Gender Research at the University of Gothenburg, I work at the intersection of research, policy and societal development. My main areas of expertise are gender equality and gender perspectives in relation to climate and sustainable development, working life and education, and the conditions for research.
My work has included analysing the gender dimensions of the climate transition, sustainable consumption and green jobs. I examine how power relations, norms and institutional structures shape people’s opportunities and living conditions, as well as how policy priorities affect different groups. A recurring focus is identifying the links between gender equality, social sustainability, and the prospects for achieving a just and inclusive societal transition.
I have experience of European and Nordic cooperation through EU-funded projects such as Eutopia and Genderaction, as well as through several assignments for the Nordic Council of Ministers. This work has included research reviews, policy analysis, international comparisons, and collaboration with researchers, government agencies and other societal stakeholders.
At the national and Nordic levels, I have collaborated with organisations including Nordregio, the Council of Nordic Trade Unions, the Swedish Energy Agency, Formas, Vinnova, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, and several county administrative boards. I have also carried out work commissioned by Swedish Government Official Inquiries. In addition, I serve on the steering committee of KvinnSam, the National Resource Library for Gender Studies and a university-wide research infrastructure at the University of Gothenburg.
I am motivated by making research-based knowledge useful in practice and by contributing analyses that broaden perspectives, highlight trade-offs, and provide a stronger basis for strategic decision-making.
