Short description

With the Swedish housing crisis as a backdrop, I am interested in exploring how the social issue of housing inequality is taken to account in the public planning administration of the City of Gothenburg. Through fieldwork on the process of urban housing planning, this research will involve urban city planners and local politicians in the municipality of Gothenburg. The aim is to explore how the question of housing for all is negotiated in the daily practice of these city officials and what consequences this can bring to the future welfare state.

Housing Provision in Urban Planning Practice

The doctoral thesis examines how responsibility for housing provision is managed in urban planning in major cities.

Methods

Through ethnographic fieldwork, including observations of urban planning projects, interviews and text analysis, the study examines how local authorities work to achieve socially sustainable housing provision.

Aim of the Research

The thesis explores the intersection between social problems, such as structural homelessness, and theoretical questions concerning urban planning.
